Met up with Auntie Ling Jion for lunch last Sat. As she remembers my birthday, she ordered a big chocolate cake with my favorite princess design on top. Besides that, auntie gave me a BIG ang bao plus a sumptuous lunch treat for my family. Thank you auntie, you are indeed a very generous auntie!

Here is the cake & the present (a princess scooter bought using the Ang Bao from aunty). Papa & Mummy had a mini early celebration for me on Sun morning at the comfort of our home. The chocolate cake was very rich & yummy:

This year -Book week, I dressed up as Spot (the dog).

Located in the far far Seletar is this Animal Resort. I fed the rabbits, horse & fishes but not the gooses as they are too hungry and "aggressive" which made me scared.

We bumped into Papa and mommy's friends and their children. One of their children, accidentally missed her step and dropped into the fish pond while feeding. In the end, auntie jumped into the water to rescue Nicole who is the same age me. It was such a sight.

We had another celebration in school on her actual day. Need I say more, she ran and gave us a hug when she saw us and proudly telling us the names of her friends one by one.

Val was feeling rather excited and knew that her party was approaching as we went shopping for goodies bags together.

I got her to packed all the goodies bags by telling her what and how may items to put into each pack as well as stuff sweets into a Mickey Mouse clubhouse pinata.

On the day, she was most happy when her big cousin Nicole arrived. (Val adores Nicole since very young). I've gotten a 2-tier Minnie mouse cake from Pine Gardens that comes with hazelnut Chocolate and strawberry flavor. Yummy!

Rented a bouncing castle and see saw for the kiddos and of course not forgetting balloons which filled the whole car when we went to get them.

Unfortunately, we were busy entertaining the guest and i just have limited pictures.

Last Sat, we attended two parties one after the other. However, I didn't managed to captured the moments in the 1st as i forgot all to bring my camera along.

Papa and Mommy have found a new common hobby - read Val's school communication book every evening.

Her teachers are very on the ball, informing us about Val's progress in the school. Last evening, the teacher wrote: Will you be celebrating Valencia's 3rd birthday in school? She has been sharing her up coming birthday party.

Wonder what she has been telling her teachers and friends. ;-P

Everyday after school

Everyday without fail, she refuses to wear her school uniform and kick a big fuss over it. In contrast, she will be very happy, smiling away when she finishes school. (the picture on the right was taken after school)

When we are home, she will showed us the book that she borrowed for the day and would request mommy to read it with her.

I think she like her chinese teacher pretty much. Some days, the teacher will help to tie her hair again and she will not wash her hair for that evening, so that we get to see it.

BTW, Eric told me that Val's chinese teacher is very pretty! He volunteered to go for all teacher-parent-session! Hummm...

Last Weekend

Last Sat late morning, we were invited to an yummy lunch at Bukit 19th Hole in SICC (thanks to uncle Leonard and aunty Lingjong). This was my 1st time to a country club and yours truly, was so amazed to learn that there is a private cinema in the club which screen up to date movies! Cool...

I did some art and craft with Val as well. Val did some carrot stamping and a butterfly (seen here)

We went to the beach on National day and had a "so call" picnic. We bought some local delights from the hawker in east coast park, laid out mats and consumed them whilst enjoying the sea, sand and sun.

I was glad that it was a fruitful weekend and not one of those that we laze around. Cant wait for the next long weekend to come.

Times files and last Sat we were invited to Vera's 1st birthday party at my Bro and sis in law new home.

I thought, since she enjoyed making the sandwiches, why not we cut out fruits and gave them to Vera as her bdae gift. (In school, the theme for this term is fruits and vegetables.) I get my mom to buy different "col" of fruits, so that it will be a colourful gift.

Ok, I admit that Ive been pretty lazy for the last few months and there are no updates at all. Even if you see new post at this blog, its probably, Eric is the one that upload the pictures.

Well, since Val and I are settling well in our new school and company, I will try to give more updates.

Recently, I found out that Val likes cheese sandwiches and decided to let her make her own supper. She carefully cut out the shapes and cheese and requested them to be heated up.

Val enjoying the cheese sandwiches that she prepared by "herself" with a cup of chilled strawberry milk. Yummy!

New preschool

Val has started a new pre-school and she is settling pretty well.
Every weekday, she will come back with a story book and will wait patiently (sometimes) for me to finish my dinner, shower before asking me to read the book with her.

Term 1

Last week was the end of school Term 1 and we were invited to Val short performance. It was a surprise for the kids as we we told not to let them know we are going.

She was delighted when she saw Mommy and Popo walking into the class. She was jumping up and down and couldn't concrete on what the teacher was saying anymore.

What has she learned in school:

- 1 to 20 (although no. gets mix up after 13)
- Colours, art and craft and many more

Service time

Last Sunday, I was able to attend the service in the main auditorium and the feeling was awesome! I've not been able to do so, as my little girl would want Mommy to stay with her in the nursery.

After weeks of asking for her "permission" she finally agreed. Now, I can join Papa for service and she will stay in the nursery with the teachers :-)

Just like her pre school, I hope that she will be able to adapt well to EXPO nursery (val calls it Big Church, JW is small church) when we move to the East.

*FYI - there are really ALOT of kids in Expo nursery. Its noisy and wild!

1st week of preschool

Val has started her 3times a week and 3hr each session preschool.

During her school holidays in Dec, we kept reminding her that she is going to school and popo can no longer stayed by her side unlike her nursery days. With the decision to let her stay in the same school, which she has been going for past 3months, val did us proud again. :-)

On her 1st day, my mom left the school within the 1st 10mins and despite of having only 1 ex-clasmate in her class, val didnt cried. Since she was recently toilet trained, we alerted the teachers that she will not be in any diapers and by the third day, she was able to inform the teachers when she needs to pee.

She woke up yesterday morning (which is her fourth day of school) and told my mom that she wants to go to school. :->

We are glad that its a very smooth transition and hope that it will be this easy when we move to the eastern part of SG come mid year.

Since some time back, Val likes searching through her wardrobe to choose what to wear for the outing. But this act has been getting very “irritating” recently. She kept insisting wearing either her “Marie cat” or” butterfly” Tee and rejected any other suggestion.

At times, we’ll let her wear the mismatched clothing out; otherwise she’ll REFUSE to get out of the house. Once, she was wearing a pair of socks and covered shoes to the swimming pool.

I hope that in this New Year, she will not take too long to dress up for school... And heres wishing all a Happy New Year and may you have a great year ahead. :-)

Last week, my BIL and SIL have finally tied a knot.
Congratulations to Alvin and Karen, may you have a blissful and blessed marriage. :-)

Below are some snap shots of our little girl in action.

The beautiful bride and the little page boy and flower girls waiting for the march in. But the wait was a "little too long" and she got distracted and couldn't cooperate with us when the restaurant door is closed. In the end, she prefers walking into the wedding dinner with mommy.

Val decided to steal the limelight by "leading" the guest with the Yam Seng. We had been attending so many wedding dinners for the past months and she has been waiting and practicing this moment since June. We are so proud of her. Well done Val!

Learning At Home: Alphabets I

Some weeks back, I began teaching her the Alphabets. Instead of the usual "F" for Fan and etc, I changed it to "F" for Fiona, "E" for Eric and so on. And am glad the method catches her interest and within a very short span of time, she has successfully mastered these few alphabets:

New Chapter

Last Sun was the end of my 18mths course and the beginning of a new chapter of my live.

For many of you that know me will agreed that I'm not an academic individual. Perusing the path of graphic design after my 'O' levels was a childhood dream come true. However, a mid career change is very much needed as I want a work and family balanced live.

Its has never been an easy journey in the past 18mths. I thank God for enlarging my capacity, taught me about good time management and providing a family that support my decision/investment.

The first few months of my course was tough. I need to cope with the adjustment of going back to work after maternity leave and juggling breast feeding, studies, housework and family. My weekends were usually spent at my parent's place and we only get to do the housework at about 10pm on every Sunday night.

Exams are always on Sunday nite and sometimes in the day, we will bring Val to do some outdoor activities (eg: visiting zoo, bird park) so that she will be knocked out and have a good nap while I'll be doing the last minute revision without any distraction.

Fortunately, my Mom and Eric are the 2 pillars of my strength. Helping to take care of Val when I'm away for lessons and working on my assignments. Together with the great support from them, we pull it through the year without getting a domestic helper and owning a car.

All the moments of the past 18mths will be deeply engraved into my memory and I'm believing for greater things to come.

Little Val certainly has taste when it comes to diapers selection. Whenever she saw Huggies in any supermarket, she would point at it and say "tong tong" (Painful). Learning At Home: Shapes

These were some back dated activities we did before she can name and identify SHAPES correctly. :-)

Activity 1) First, I cut out the shapes stencil and Val paints them. (Val doesn't likes it, maybe it restrict her creativity)

Activity 3) I created the fridge magnets and she has been playing with it till today. (eh, guess what, I just spotted a typo error on "RECTANGLE". gosh....)

Terrible Two

For the past 2 weeks, Val has been misbehaviour.

Incident 1:
Val "read" even LOUDER when I asked her to read softly repeatedly.
In the end, librarian chased us out... I have to carry a screaming and crying toddler whilst she pulled my hair and hit me along the way home.

Incident 2:
Val doesn’t want to go to bed in the night even though she only napped for about 1hr and woke up at 6-ish. She will run around the house and does not allow my mom to (pretend) sleep or switch off the lights even its 11.30pm. There was once, she insisted my mom to stand and carry her!

Her new sleeping timing causes my mom (her main caregiver) to be very tiring as she has to take care of her the whole day. This is not Val's norm where she will nap for 3 hrs and woke up at about 8.30 to 9.30am. After 2 days of allowing her "monkey-ing", I took out the cane that I bought back from my in-laws place over the weekend. Yes, its works...she obediently went to bed and doesn’t dare to move.

I think the much heard about Terrible Two is here. Disciplinary action has kick-off!

BTW, I didnt use alot of strength, so not so painful lah. I believe in "spare the rod and spoil the child.”

Outdoor

We tried to have more outdoor activities during these uncertain times.

Last Sunday, my cousin invited us to the Zoo. We had a great time with the kids, watching the elephant show and playing with the water.
Little Chole who is 12 days older can ready "WALK"! She is not tired at all and she loves to take pictures. ;-)
Seeing that her cousin is walking, Val also walks a long way... (although, both Eric and I knew she wanted to give up walking much earlier)

Learning at home: Colours

Inspired by my cousin Linette, I started teaching Val the different colours through painting.

Colours Val knows: Red, Pink, Yellow, Green, Purple, Blue and Brown* (*at times). But sometimes, when you asked her what colours, she will reply Red almost immediately without thinking. After asking her the second/third time, then she will get the colours right. Maybe she is just pure guessing.

Baby Vera

On 30th July, thurs, my SIL has delivered to a beautiful and alert baby.

Due to H1N1, TMC has very strict visiting hours and only allow 2 visitors at one time and this apply to 1-bedded as well. We have to wait at the small lobby and take turns to visit them.

Couldnt catch a glimpse of vera on Thurs (due to the visiting hours is over), we went back on the 2nd day. On friday morning, I bought val to IMM and let her choose a small gift for vera. Val choose her all time favourite Minnie Mouse balloon for Vera and a Big Bird for herself.

After singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars" to Mei Mei, Val occupied herself with opening the drawer and visiting or should I say inspecting the toilet over and over again. She was making so much LOUD noise in the room. The good thing is that Val is not jealous at all when my mom carried vera. (Infact, she wont be bother if I carried other babies in church nursey as well.) :-)

Or maybe she is more intested in Jui Ma's food...

Oh, the funny part is that she kept saying Jui Ma's hand Painful. Jui Jui Not Pain! and gave me that "WHY" look.

Yes Val, if you read this next time, Mommy's hand was once painful as well.

After a very tiring and looooong Sunday (Eric had a >24hr programming competition and I had a full day class), we chilled out at U.d.d.e.r.s - Kilat outlet.

We ordered Honey comb with Mars (If I remembered the flavour correctly)and Strawberry Fields^TM. Somehow, Val preferred the latter and asked for more.

I always thought that my little girl likes every/any type of COLD drinks/ice cream. Well, seem like she starts to have her own preference.

Ps: I go for Honey comb and Eric likes both.

The other day, after feeding her the 1st spoon, Val looked at mommy and said "In Jesus name..... Amen".

I was caught by surprise! Never did I know she remembered these words and said it before/during meal time.

Ok, this mommy MUST REMEMBER to say Grace all the time! :-P

Toilet Inspector

Val's latest obsession is to visit the Toilet whenever and wherever she saw a toilet signage. She'll goes: Oh, Oh, Kuai4 dian3 (hurry). da4 bian4 (shit) yao4 tu1 lai2 liao3 (coming out)! (Initially, we were tricked by her, cos she said it as if she really need to poo right away)

By looking at the signage, Val knows either its for Papa, Mommy or Baby.

She will insist Mommy to go into the cubicle and pretend to pee, so she can flush and then wash her hands. She felt happy and satisfied after inspecting/visiting the toilet. If we don't let her visit the toilet, she will keep repeating and make a fuss about it.

We have been very busy for the last two months.

After 5 years, my aunt and 2 cousins are back from USA for holidays and I have to complete my endless assignments and exams.
We attended 3 weddings, celebrated Mother and Father's Day and lots of makan sessions and outings with the family.

Eric's student has been attending weekly Expo service almost faithfully since Easter and same goes to us. We dislike the long journey but Val never fail to enjoyed her bus and MRT rides to "Big Church".
(Her little friend, Macy, started calling it Big Church and Val followed. Somehow Val prefer Big Church to Small Church (JW), maybe it has more room to run about and more toys)

The next few months gona be more challenging and exciting with 4 modules to complete before Nov. We gona have new additions in the family - baby Vera (Val's 1st immediate cousin) and Karen (my sis-in-law) in early Aug and Nov respectively.

Eric is preparing for his completion in mid July and my classes gona start again in the same week too...Gosh!

Thanks to my mom who has been helping us to take care of Val since day One. Indeed, she is Top on Val's "Favorite" list all the time. :-)

Easter

This year, Easter was a little different for us. We celebrated Good Friday a day earlier by bringing Val to the CHC Children Church Easter production.

We didnt intend to stay long since val is still young and might not understand what is going on around her besides noticing that there were thousands of kor kors and jie jies sitting in the same auditorium. Well, she enjoyed the production and sat still for almost 30mins! Good job Val!

After that we went to Changi Airport T3. She loves the airconditioning, wide open space and etc..
Once she stepped into T3, she said "wowwww" and started running... and falling..since she hasn't master the art of running.

Wonder how and where she learnt it from? From "Going to the Zoo" song or the books we borrowed from the library. Hummm..

Hence, I need to wake up at about 6.30am so that Eric could drive me to work and we will have breakfast and spent some quality time together.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy" and my new brikenstock was lost a few weeks ago in the church nursery :-(

What can I say... we never know who is in the church. I just hope that the person wore the wrong pair of shoe home and couldnt made it to services for the past few weeks.

On the brighter side, Val loves church and sometimes, when I told her that we are going out. She will asked: "church?" and say "ah tar (guitar) kor kor" which means she will meet our cg guitarist. Wonder why she likes him so much.

This coming Sun, we are invited to attend two house warming - Premiere@Tampines aka 1st HDB condo and Park Infina . I cant wait to see both projects as they look very impressive from the images.

Last Sun, we brought Val to Robinson to get the gifts for the proud owners. Being a newbie in "walking" Val wana walk instead of being carried.

She was crying and screaming "walk, walk" non-stop while we were looking for the gifts. Finally, when we make payment after the 15mins of stressful "hunting", we let her come down and in the blink of our eyes, she broke a saucer which cost $5.90!

Conclusion, never bring toddler to the household department.

Since there is nothing much happening in the office, so I take the chance to blog.

Sometimes, I can get a little worried cos there was no emails in my mailbox for days.
Almost everyday, there will be news of budget cuts at client's side and projects being abandon.

However, on the brighter side, I heard of church friends being able to move on to a better job with better benefits and etc... and I"m sure my turn will come.

Just keep believing and trusting God for breakthroughs in my live. :-)

When asked where is the wall that she drew, she will led you to the room.
And when asked who draw on the wall, she said "Ah gong"!

Last nite, I found another of her "materpiece" in the room.

Although Val get to see her gugu about once a week, but she does like her alot.

Few weeks ago, I had these conversion with Val

Conversion 1:
Mom: Who got married recently? (I told her that her susu was getting married one day before his ROM in Dec)
Val: Gugu... (and she smiles)
Mom: Noooo...
Val: Ah ma, ah ma (and smiles)
Mom: Nooo... ah ma too old to get married now...
Val: Gong Gong (and smiles)
Mom: Nooo... quick tell me
Val: Susu

When I asked Val the same question in front of her Gugu, Val answer is Susu.

Conversion 2:
Mom: I think papa is your favorite person
Mom: so, tell me who is your favorite person
Val: Gugu (without any hesitation!)
Mom: How can it be gugu
Val: Ah Ma, Ah Ma (and she smiles)
Mom: You sure is Ah Ma?
Val: Susu ar?
Mom: Oooo, so susu is your favorite person?

When I asked Val the same question in front of her Gugu, Val answer is Papa.

Conversion 3:
Mom: Who knows how to play the guitar?
Val: Kor Kor (she is referring to our cell group guitarist)
Mom: Only Kor Kor knows? How about Papa
Val: just smile

When I asked Val the same question in front of the Kor Kor, Val just look at the Kor Kor and gives a cheeky smile.

17th Months

I finally reach the half way mark of my studies, 6 more modules to go and I will be completing my studies before the end of 2009! Received four of my results and am totally please with it. :-)

At 17th months, Val has started walking (a few steps) without support. We were waiting for her to start walking cos everyone was asking us non-stop! Sometimes they will "blame" us for not feeding her which cos her no strength to walk! Oh please...

We know that she is kinda slow in her motor skills, however, her speech has definitely progress a great deal. Her vocabulary is a mixture of English, Mandarin and Hokkien. Sometimes, she will mix them together in her conversion. Well, probably she learn it from us since we speak rojak language to her.

Newly added vocabulary:
Bao Bao Me (Carry Me)
Kai Air con (On the aircon)
Ah Boon susu (Uncle Boon)
Papa Kun (Papa sleeping/sleep in hokkien)

She tends to address an older man - "ah gong" or "ah bei" , middle-aged man - "uncle" or "man", younger man and boys as "kor kor". There was once in a lift, Val address a father in his 40s -"ah bei" cos he has grey hair all over his head. We felt so paisay cos his family members were with him and his 2 pri sch kids laughed at their father! gosh!

Last evening, My mom asked Val where did she go. She told my mom "papa... sit car car". Yes, Eric brought Val to the neighborhood mall and indeed Val sat on those 50cents car rides. :-)

An evening of fun

Yesterday evening, my mom and I brought Val to visit cousin Annette.
The 2 toddlers were playing all kinds of things. From toys to hairbands to horse rides.

The fun part began after their dinner when both of them want the Elmo toy phone. Val chased Annette round the living area to kitchen calling "nett, nett" and of course Annette replied her with the word "NO". Unfortunately, I wasn't able to capture all these as my battery went FLAT. arrggg...

Towards the end of our stay, the girls and I played with the toy kitchen.
Val was busy opening the cabinet doors and Annette kept passing the milk, juice, food for me to eat and drink!

Oh, Annette was toilet trained and when she did her small biz, Val was sitting outside the toilet waiting for her. Annette turned to Val and asked if she wants to Shhh Shhh... that moment was so funny. Cant wait for Val to be toilet trained as well.

Month of Nov

Yes, am MIA for the last few weeks cos am so tied down with my never ending school assignments, exams and lessons. Gonna have a long break till the next exam and classes in Feb 09. Yippee!

Despite the midst of all these, we tried to make every weekend interesting for Val.

Unfortunately, we did not bring the digital camera out all the time. Nevertheless, here are some of the places we went that has pictures.

9 Nov: Attended a Malay wedding. Val was playing with the salted egg door gifts at home …interesting…(We are looking forward to my cousin’s Malay wedding ceremony next year :-))

16 Nov: Valencia was dedicated to God! She was crying on the stage cos she wants to play with the guitar that was sitting there. Kept saying “tar tar, papa, tar!” *faint* (waiting for more pics and a video from our friends)

*Baby dedication means that we, as parents, en- trust God to take care of Val. It is different from water baptism.

23 Nov morning: Singapore Zoo

23 Nov evening: Attended the 1^st ever Asia Conference. Still wide awake at 11pm despite the morning activity.

30 Nov: Dinner at this nice place near little India.eh, i cant remember the name of the restaurant.

6 Dec: Attended Cousin Annette’s 2^nd birthday. Look, she is driving a car again. Yes, she is a big fan of all sorts of cars - big or small. No wonder the 2^nd word that she utters is “CAR”.

We went for dinner buffet last evening and poor Val had stomach upset after consuming the extensive junk food. She woke up 4am this morning with lots of tears in her big round eyes and pooed 5 times today! Hope that she will recover soon and back to her usual shelf by tomorrow.

Eric showed this video when I reached home this evening and it brought GREAT joy to me.

For the past 2 nights, I reached home at about 11.15pm cos lessons were on...which means I have not seen Val for more than 48hrs.

This evening, Eric brought her to Mac and she enjoyed spending time with him. Well, am not surprised when my mom told me that Val will point at the main door and say papa/gong gong during her dinner time today. (That is usually the time the 2 will reach home.)

Wonder if she misses me as much as I?

Gosh, I need to wait for another 19hrs or so to see and play with her. That's why I need to update my blog so that I can "see" her while am at work tomorrow. :-)

My parents house has 2 uninvited guest - Monkey.
For the past 1 week, they will popped by the window and ..... One of them even came into the house once and play with Val's diaper! OM!

Unknowingly, when we mentioned the word "Monkey", Val will rush to either one of us and wants to be carried. She will pad her chest, its a sign that she used when she was frighten.

Now, we are very careful with using the word "Monkey" otherwise, she will live in fear all the time. Poor girl.

1st year birthday celebration

We celebrated Val 1^st year birthday on 13 Sep, Sat. We had our dinner at The House of Lobster located at the beautiful Republic Polytechnic.

We were in awed with the beauty of the school, am not joking; it seriously doesn’t look like a school! It looks more like a club house to me.
Val enjoyed herself greatly; first, she enjoyed playing with the balloon that her Jiu Jiu brought. During dinner, she went round the table and gives everyone hi-five and charming everyone with her smiles. She cuts her Minnie mouse birthday cake brought by Gu Gu and Su Su.

And she received lotsa present!

Bus ride

Lesson was on yesterday morning for me. Hence, Eric had to bring Val to her class all by himself. Val enjoyed her quality time spent with papa and Eric surprised us by bringing Val to and back from school by BUS after waiting a long time for a cab.

What we have been up to

It’s been a while since we have last updated our blog. I have finally stop breast feeding after 10mths of HARD WORK! In a week time, Valencia will be celebrating her 1^st birthday. Eric and I have decided that big birthday bash will not work for our 12mth old gal. Hence, having a dinner with our immediate family members will be a great idea!

We enrolled Val to a baby crawler class for 8 lessons and decided not to continue due the professionalism of the school. However, Val enjoyed her weekly Sunday morning class especially the music and movement session. We are thinking of sending her to Kindermusik since she is so “into” music.

Val has not made much improvement in her motor skill. She still does the level 1 leopard crawl. Perhaps, that the reason why she enjoyed swimming with daddy.

However, Val has made vast improvement in her vocabulary. She can pronounce, car, bike, tar(star), bag, card and imitate the lion/tiger’s roar when we showed her a picture of the animal. She has become more sociable, demanding and of course naughty!
